Dozens of arrests as Russian anti-corruption rallies hit Daghestan

Several dozen people were detained on 26 March during an anti-corruption rally in Daghestan’s capital Makhachkala. In Krasnodar, the capital of Krasnodar Krai seven people were arrested. Rallies against official corruption were held across Russia, including in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Vladivostok, Novosibirsk and Tomsk, according to the BBC. The purpose of the protests was to force the Russian government to launch an investigation into alleged corruption by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

Makhachkala court allows police to withhold information on ‘supervision list’ in an unprecedented ruling

On 6 March, the Sovetsky District Court of Makhachkala dismissed the lawsuit of Magomed Gadzhiyev, a member of the public council at the city’s Tanghim Mosque, against the Sovetsky District’s Department of Internal Affairs (ROVD). Gadzhiyev was trying to find out whether or not he was included on the ‘preventive supervision list’ (profuchot), which imposes restrictions on freedom of movement.

Smoke blankets in Makhachkala as market fire rages

Social media users are posting videos and pictures of plumes of smoke billowing from a market complex in the capital of the Russian Republic of Dagestan in the North Caucasus. No casualties or injuries have been reported in the incident. The blaze reportedly ravaged through 1,200 square metres of the market site. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
A representative of the regional ministry of emergency situations told RIA Novosti one of the containers with merchandise caught fire.

Territory of advanced development to be created in Dagestan

The territory of advanced development 'Kaspiysk' will be created in Dagestan. The relevant decree was signed by the Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

Syria intends to cooperate with Dagestan in fighting ideology of terrorism

Syrian Minister of Awqaf (Religious Endowments) Mohammad Abdul-Sattar al-Sayyed and the Dagestani Prime Minister Abdussamad Gamidov discussed means to confront Takfiri terrorist ideology.
